UPS Customer Technology

Abstract:

UPS helps businesses grow, manage costs, and improve their customer service by integrating technology with business processes to demystify global trade and optimize supply chains.

UPS Shipping Technology
UPS shipping technology helps customers grow their businesses by optimizing their shipping processes to lower costs, improve service, and increase efficiency.

  • ups.com®: Millions of UPS customers perform critical small package and/or freight shipping functions on ups.com daily. The Web site receives 18.5 million page views per day and has 107 unique country sites. The site also receives an impressive 22.7 million small package tracking requests on average every business day.
  • UPS CampusShip®: CampusShip is a Web-based, UPS-hosted distributed shipping solution that allows employees of companies with widespread facilities and decentralized workforces to easily process and ship packages with UPS from their computer desktops. CampusShip gives transportation and mailroom decision-makers centralized control over shipping procedures and costs.
  • UPS WorldShip®: With more than 500,000 customers worldwide, WorldShip is one of the most widely deployed transportation software applications in the world. A full-featured, Windows-based, shipping software designed for customers with high-volume shipping needs, WorldShip streamlines the process of ordering by calculating shipping costs, preparing electronic customs forms, customizing shipping preferences, and generating shipping labels. It enables the company and their customers to track shipments online, eliminating calls from customers inquiring when orders will arrive.

UPS Visibility Technology:
UPS visibility solutions provide powerful information for any shipment – both small package and freight – so customers can stay informed.

  • ups.com: Whether a customer is shipping small packages or freight, UPS leverages the Internet to provide customers visibility into their business processes, allowing them to provide better customer service and more efficiently manage their supply chains.  Available since 1995, tracking service on ups.com gives customers instant 24-hour access to tracking information, including signature proof of delivery. UPS currently receives an average of 22.7 million online tracking requests per business day.
  • Quantum View® is a Web-based service that provides shipment content information, status updates and event alerts for inbound and outbound packages. To better meet the needs of customers, UPS has developed four applications under the Quantum View umbrella which can be mixed to tailor the needs of its users.
    • Quantum View® Manage is a Web-based application that allows customers to view shipment information for multiple accounts without a tracking number. Users can create customized views of shipment history for outbound and 3rd party billed shipments (inbound is available using Locations IDs or UPS Address Matching technology) and can receive e-mail shipment status and/or download selected shipment data.
    • Quantum View® Inbound provides proactive notification of UPS shipments that are en route to the receiver’s location. The technology helps businesses better prepare for delivery activities in such areas as staffing, accounting, stocking and customer service. The strength of Quantum View Inbound lies in UPS’s proprietary “address matching” system that retains multiple variations of street addresses within the United States. In addition to Quantum View’s ability to match to different addresses, it also recognizes variations in business names such as UPS and UPS, Inc.
    • Quantum View Notify® delivers proactive critical shipment status updates via e-mail. This technology is used by customers who want UPS to proactively notify interested parties about critical shipment status updates for some or all of their shipments.
    • Quantum View® Data delivers proactive critical shipment status updates via data files over the Internet for customers’ and suppliers’ inbound and/or outbound shipments. Data files are delivered via the Web in .csv, .txt, or XML formats and are easy to integrate into internal software applications or databases. This service targets large customers who want to integrate this data into their own ERP, CRM or other systems.
  • Flex® Global View: The Flex Global View platform provides customers with supply chain visibility of multimodal (air, ocean, ground and rail – freight or UPS small package) transportation, purchase order, customer and inventory management data via the Web. Like Quantum View, Flex Global View provides customers proactive notification of events they deem important in their daily business operations - from notification of an item held in Customs to confirmation that a critical shipment is en route to their location.
  • Billing Visibility: UPS offers a number of options for viewing and analyzing a UPS bill.
    • UPS Billing Center - an easy-to-use Web site that allows customers to view UPS domestic and import invoices, print invoices, or pay UPS charges online quickly and securely.
    • UPS PDF Invoice - an easy and convenient way to receive an e-mail copy of UPS domestic and import invoices in an electronic PDF format. When the invoice is ready, UPS will send an e-mail to up to five e-mail addresses of the customer’s choice. UPS Invoice allows customers to streamline the time required to receive and review UPS charges.
    • UPS Billing Data - a highly detailed global electronic billing file providing shipping and brokerage charges in a CSV or XML format. UPS Billing Data offers the best way to provide visibility into, and take control of, shipping expense information.
    • UPS Billing Analysis Tool – The Billing Analysis Tool is downloadable technology that allows customers to manipulate UPS Billing Data to analyze and allocate shipping costs. The tool is available in 36 countries and 21 languages, as well as the converted currencies of the customer’s choosing. It provides a variety of expense summaries and subtotals, which can be arranged by the customer’s cost codes, by UPS service, shipping method, and more.
    • UPS Flat File Bill - an electronic file that contains UPS billing data. This tool works with customers’ billing data to quickly produce insightful reports that support business processes. The tool simplifies the analysis and reporting of UPS shipping expenses by offering summary reports and subtotals, which can be organized by a company's cost codes, by UPS service, shipping methods, and more.
    • EDI 210 Bill (Electronic Data Interchange) - Designed for enterprises with existing EDI capabilities, the UPS EDI 210 Bill allows customers to integrate UPS billing information into accounting and other business systems. It was designed to integrate UPS billing data into customers’ accounting and other business systems.
