UPS Named Leader in Carbon Disclosure Index

Atlanta, June 18, 2009

UPS (NYSE:UPS), the world's largest package delivery company, has been named to the 2008 Carbon Disclosure Project's "Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index" (CDLI).

UPS is the only transportation company from the Standard & Poor's 500 (S&P) corporations to make the Index.

According to the Carbon Disclosure Project's Web site, companies selected to appear in the CDLI demonstrate the highest level of transparency and disclosure on climate change. Of the 300 S&P companies that responded to the request, less than 20% are recognized in the Index.

"Good corporate governance in respect of climate change disclosure will inevitably reap its rewards," commented Paul Dickinson, Chief Executive of the Carbon Disclosure Project. "As carbon regulation increases, those companies that have implemented climate change-related strategies are clearly going to be in a far better position to meet the challenge of higher carbon prices than companies that have procrastinated. Good disclosure practices are synonymous with good management."

The CDP Leadership Index honor is just one of UPS's many environmental and sustainability recognitions. UPS also has been chosen as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the FTSE4Good Index and Fortune's Most Admired, including being No. 1 in the industry for social responsibility.

"Our employees take pride in our commitment to being a socially and environmentally responsible company," said Bob Stoffel, senior vice president of strategy, sustainability, engineering and environmental affairs. "We are grateful to the Carbon Disclosure Project, one of the world's most respected organizations that judge environmental performance, for honoring us with this credential."
