Jill Schubert, a 29-year UPS veteran, has assumed command as president of the company's new and expanded Northern Plains District, directing small package operations in an area that covers five states.
The Northern Plains District is one of 20 new Districts dividing the United States activated earlier this year. It includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and a small western portion of the state of Iowa and features a package-delivery operation with some 13,000 employees.
Schubert most recently served as the manager of UPS's Minnesota District, which has been consolidated into the new District. She began her UPS career in 1981 as a package handler in the Rocky Mountain District. She was promoted to business manager in 1990. Jill held positions in hub, air and package operations prior to being named Rocky Mountain Air division manager in 1999. After operations assignments in Missouri and with UPS Supply Chain Solutions(UPS SCS), Jill was promoted to District manager with the East District of UPS SCS in 2005. She was named the South Illinois District manager in 2006 and is currently the Minnesota District manager.
UPS announced in January it was going to streamline its domestic management structure to improve overall performance by reducing the number of U.S. Districts from 46 to 20. Thanks to today's technology and the management strengths of its people, a District office now can oversee a much larger geographic area than in years' past.
As part of the realignment, UPS also is expanding its outreach to customers by strengthening local sales and marketing efforts. No package handling facilities have been affected by the consolidation of management offices, nor have any UPS drivers or package handlers.
