As senior vice president of communications and brand management, Christine M. Owens has global responsibility for Public Relations, Employee Communications, Customer Communications, Advertising and Brand Management.
Owens is a member of the UPS Management Committee, which oversees the day-to-day management of the company.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native began her career at UPS in 1979 as a part-time temporary helper in Philadelphia during the holiday peak season. In 1980, she became a full-time UPS driver and was soon promoted into management as a supervisor in 1981. Owens advanced through a number of operational assignments in Metro Philadelphia prior to becoming District Manager of Northeast Texas in 1989.
She later became the District Manager of the Metro Chicago District where she sat on the Governors Commission on the Status of Women in Illinois and also worked with Chicago Mayor Daley as an early adopter and implementer of the “Welfare to Work Program”. Following this assignment, Owens was promoted as the West Region Manager in 1997, and in 2000, served as the Southeast Region Manager.
Prior to her current position, Owens served as UPS’s vice president for transportation where she directed the coordination, planning, and utilization of the UPS transportation network.
In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Owens is a trustee of The UPS Foundation, UPS’s charitable arm. She also serves on the board of directors for the National Council of La Raza and as a board member of the Women Presidents' Organization.
