UPS - eBay Alliance
Making life easier for eBay users:
Today’s eBay buyers and sellers have easy access to a suite of UPS OnLine® Tools integrated throughout the eBay marketplace. The services allow eBay users to track UPS shipments, review transit times, calculate shipment costs and print shipping labels, all at the point of transaction.
UPS and eBay have enjoyed a successful relationship since 2000, when UPS created a shipping center at eBay.com. In 2002 UPS announced the integration of UPS shipping tools into eBay’s PayPal payment process, allowing buyers and sellers to complete shipping functions within PayPal’s Web site.
In 2003, UPS and eBay announced that they were broadening their relationship by integrating UPS Tools more deeply into eBay.com, enabling eBay buyers and sellers to access UPS shipping tools at the point of transaction. And in June 2004, AuctionDrop announced that any of the more than 4,400 The UPS Store locations nationwide will accept items from AuctionDrop customers for sale on eBay.
In November 2005, UPS announced it has expanded shipping options available to sellers on eBay.com to include international delivery. The new service provides U.S.-based eBay users the ability to expand their businesses and ship packages internationally with the same reliability they have come to expect from UPS's domestic shipping services.
In early 2006 UPS launched new shipping options for Canadian eBay users. Similar to U.S. eBay users, the UPS shipping tools allow eBay sellers to calculate costs, request a UPS pick-up, track shipments, review transit times and print shipping labels all at the point of transaction. Both international and domestic UPS shipping labels are available and can be paid for via PayPal Integrating UPS shipping tools on eBay.com makes life easier for eBay buyers and sellers, increasing visibility, streamlining the process of bidding and completing a transaction, reducing e-mails between buyers and sellers, and boosting their confidence in the transaction.
Especially useful for higher volume sellers, several third party software providers (including CORESense, DEK Consulting, Infopia, Interapptive Inc. and Zoovy) now offer auction management software enabling users to export data to UPS WorldShip®, shipping and tracking software. UPS WorldShip allows high volume sellers to process their packages more efficiently, managing all their shipping activities from their desktop using the full portfolio of UPS shipping services.
A great opportunity - and a perfect fit:
eBay is the world’s largest online trading community, with more than 180.6 million registered users, including an increasing number of sellers that are small businesses. eBay buyers and sellers transacted more than $44 billion worth of goods last year.
Someone has to move those goods from buyer to seller. And the integration is a perfect example of UPS’s e-commerce strategy of embedding easy-to-use, UPS-enabled shipping solutions to serve customers at critical points within their business processes.
How it works:
- Sellers have the choice of displaying a flat rate for shipping, or actual rates for UPS service levels.
- If the seller opts to offer actual rates, a recent enhancement allows selection of up to three UPS service levels. The seller can access a calculator from within the item listing process to view rates to any US zip code, major US cities and the more than 200 countries and territories UPS serves.
- The rate and service calculator also appears on the bidder’s view item page. The bidder enters a zip code and views destination specific rates for the UPS services offered by the seller.
- After a bidder wins an auction, the buyer selects a shipping service from the list of services offered by the seller during buyer checkout.
- The seller processes the package based on the service level selected by the buyer, and prints a shipping label directly from the eBay site.
- Buyers and sellers can track packages from the eBay site, reducing “where’s my item?” calls and e-mails.
- Additional UPS services, including a drop-off locator, packaging tips and an FAQ for international shipping, are located in the “UPS Shipping Zone
.”
