The UPS Ramapo Ridge Data Center in Mahwah, N.J., is one of two data centers supporting UPS’s worldwide computer operations. It contains approximately one-half of the company’s entire computing capacity and the world’s largest Db2 relational data base. The other data center is located in Alpharetta, Ga. Together, both centers ensure uninterrupted service for UPS operations and provide real-time access to package information.

Completely self-sufficient, the Ramapo Ridge facility can operate on self-generated power for almost five days and is flexible, with dual paths for electricity and chilled water. Its unique center automation system is totally integrated to monitor the entire building, with more than 7,000 data points, from a single laptop computer.

  • 650,000 gallons of chilled water storage to run computers if power fails
  • Two backup wells can supply 120 gallons per minute if city water is disrupted
  • More than five miles of piping, with redundant piping paths and automatic valving

  • Three 1200-kilowatt and four 1,600-kilowatt engine-generators to provide backup power
  • More than 3,000 batteries to provide power bridge for backup generators
