As Customer Technology Portfolio Manager for UPS, Laynglyn Capers directs the development of all customer facing systems and products worldwide, including UPS.com, WorldShip, package tracking, and online customer access systems. He oversees a team of more than 650 IT professionals in three states: Georgia, Maryland and New Jersey.

Under Capers’ leadership, UPS delivers on its strategy to provide valued-added information products to customers that directly integrate their business processes with those of UPS. This strategy provides customers with access to timely information services and aligns with the company’s goal of providing the seamless movement of goods, funds and information.

Capers began his UPS career in 1976 as a loader/unloader in the Metro New York District. He held various management positions in operations before moving to Corporate Information Services in 1979. As a program manager he helped develop billing systems, tracking and delivery systems and worked on the first implementation of UPS mainframe technology.

As Data Communications Manager, he supported implementations of the award-winning International Shipping and Processing System (ISPS), the Total Track and DIALS tracking systems and UPS Airline systems. In the late 1980s, Capers served as Telecommunications Network Systems manager and responsible for global implementations of UPSnet, development of customer access systems as well as development of the mobile communications infrastructure for the DIAD. He was instrumental in the formation of UPS Telecom, Inc.

Capers has held positions of increasing responsibility as EDI Services Systems Manager and Customer Automation Systems Manager. In 1997 Capers was promoted to Customer Automation Applications Development Manager where he directed development of UPS.com, WorldShip and other key customer applications, including the original package level detail (PLD) project used by UPS for its “Smart Labels.” Capers assumed his current position in 2002.

A native of New York City, Capers attended Pace University in New York majoring in Computer Science.
