UPS Expands Marketplace Shipping Platform By Adding Houzz And Pricefalls Marketplace
- UPS technology allows sellers to import orders from multiple e-commerce marketplaces
- Merchants benefit from simplified shipping process and price discounts
- Service speeds up e-commerce transactions
Online marketplaces are the undisputed kings of e-commerce. Consumers love clicking into a digital world of seemingly limitless choices with sales fulfilled by a panorama of sellers. But, for many of these sellers, managing transactions across multiple e-commerce marketplaces is too complex.
Enter UPS’s Marketplace Shipping, a technology solution that lets merchants view, process and ship orders from multiple e-commerce marketplaces and web stores using a single online tool.
UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced its 19th and 20th marketplace additions with Houzz, a popular site for home remodeling, design and purchasing of related products, and Pricefalls Marketplace, an online retail marketplace offering a wide variety of goods. Magento, an open source e-commerce platform, was added late last year. UPS expects to continue adding additional marketplaces, which will further facilitate the ease of shipping and selling on multiple sites.
“Smart sellers know they have to be on multiple marketplaces to reach the most customers, but juggling transactions from an ever-increasing number of sales sites can get complex. UPS Marketplace Shipping is designed to address that pain point,” said Michele Cooper, senior manager of customer technology marketing, UPS. “UPS Marketplace Shipping is an innovative solution for businesses seeking a tool to offer customizable shipping services in the rapidly-growing world of e-commerce.”
Marketplace Shipping is free to set up at UPS.com and there are no monthly subscription or per-package fees. Merchants have access to the vast suite of UPS shipping services, including UPS Next Day Air®, UPS 2nd Day Air® and UPS Ground, providing the flexibility to meet customer needs. Shipping can be processed in just two clicks, and merchants can pay for shipping with a UPS shipping account, credit card or PayPal.
Package tracking is also integrated, helping reduce the time and effort it takes a business to keep up with the status and cost of shipments, while shipping rates are discounted by at least 10% from list rates, with discounts growing based on shipping volume. Merchants can combine multiple orders into one shipment to a single address and get a consolidated view of that order or the shipment history.
“UPS Marketplace Shipping makes managing orders easier than ever for our sellers, allowing them to spend more time building their business,” said Elliot Moskow, CEO of Pricefalls. “This is an example of how our two companies are working together to help the small businesses focus on the things that matter most, leaving the shipping logistics to UPS.”
This technology is another example of how UPS is uniquely positioned and deeply committed to providing online merchants with powerful solutions that enable them to leverage technology to meet customers’ needs, said Jerome Roberts, UPS’s vice president of global product innovation. “UPS Marketplace Shipping, combined with our vast portfolio, UPS My Choice and more than 27,500 global UPS Access Point locations, provide the tools to help merchants spend less time shipping and more time focused on growing their business.”
According to the UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper Study , shopping on marketplaces is almost universal. More than 96% percent of U.S. online shoppers report making a purchase at a marketplace, compared with 98% in Asia and 96% each in Europe and Canada.
In 2016, sales on the 10-largest marketplaces in the U.S. sales hit $387.7 billion globally, according to an analysis by Internet Retailer using data from company reports and ChannelAdvisor Corp, a marketing firm. Internet Retailer has identified more than 40 marketplaces around the world that have launched in the last five years.
