Industry veteran with deep experience in Asia’s business landscape and segment expertise to drive business growth in Japan
UPS (NYSE:UPS) has announced the appointment of Daryl Tay as President and Representative Director of UPS Japan, succeeding Masato Umeno, who is now Director, Customs Brokerage, UPS South Asia.
A UPS veteran of 18 years, Tay has spearheaded various initiatives while leading teams in sales, strategy, marketing and operations throughout the Asia Pacific region. Prior to his current appointment, Tay was the Managing Director for UPS Vietnam, where he was based in Ho Chi Minh City. During his leadership, service enhancements were executed in 10 provinces across central and southern Vietnam, while new trade routes for ocean and freight forwarding were launched between Vietnam and trade partners including Australia and Malaysia, reducing time-in-transit and improving shipping predictability.
“Daryl’s rich knowledge and expertise gained throughout his career in Asia will be a great resource for UPS in Japan, where we are deeply committed to our customers and partners, and understand the importance of meeting their needs,” said K.K. Leung, President of North Asia District, UPS Asia Pacific Region “We will continue to enhance our in-market capabilities and network to help local businesses succeed by capitalizing on our vertical industry expertise.”
In 2010, Tay relocated to Shanghai to assume the role of Marketing Director at UPS China. During the period of UPS’s rapid expansion in China, he played an instrumental role in developing UPS’s e-commerce strategy through the strategic alliance between UPS and AliExpress, which connected Chinese businesses to global online buyers and sellers.
On his plans in the new role, Tay says, “As Japan businesses continue to expand to other countries in APAC, in particular Southeast Asia, the market has good potential for growth1. I am looking forward to working with our customers on identifying new opportunities and services that can strengthen their competitive advantage.”
