UPS® (NYSE: UPS) employees in Vietnam hit the road in October to complete more than 2,000 volunteer hours for a range of environmental and humanitarian causes across the country, as part of the company’s Global Volunteer Month.

The program, which is now in its 16th year, is spearheaded by The UPS Foundation—the global philanthropic and corporate citizenship arm of UPS. This year, UPS employees in Vietnam took part in a number of initiatives, including:

  • Helping to clear roads affected by landslides resulting from flooding in the Yen Bai Province
  • Assisting farmers in Bac Kan’s Thanh Van community to harvest crops
  • Donating 1,399 motorcycle helmets and raising road safety awareness for primary school students in Hanoi
  • Providing care for over 150 orphaned children at the Tu An Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City
  • Building a house to be used for charitable purposes in the Ben Tre province

In addition, The UPS Foundation donated US$97,000 to three charities across Vietnam focused on child welfare, education, and environmental causes.

“At UPS, we’re committed to ensuring the health and sustainability of the communities that we live and work in,” said Chika Imakita, Marketing Director for South Asia. “We have both the people power and logistical planning capabilities to mobilize and make a difference. We look forward to continuing this effort and helping local communities in the years to come.”

UPS has committed to volunteer 20 million community service hours by the end of 2020, and reached more than 70 percent of its goal to date. Through UPS’s membership with IMPACT 2030, UPS continues to encourage employee volunteering to help advance the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The UPS Foundation leads UPS’s global citizenship programs, including Global Volunteer Month. The UPS Foundation encourages employees across the globe to volunteer their time.
