Certipharm Confirms UPS’s Compliance With EU Standards For The Shipment Of Healthcare Products, Underlining The Company’s Transformation Efforts And Providing Customers With The Tailored Solutions They Demand

UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced today that it now offers EU Good Distribution Practice (GDP)-certified pharmaceutical shipping in France. With this certification granted by Certipharm, customers in the healthcare sector can be confident that their sensitive shipments are being handled with the highest level of care right up until the moment of final delivery.

“UPS is known for its engineering culture, precision and focus on compliance. The GDP certification confirms this and can be seen as a vote of confidence for our healthcare customers,” said Rob Burrows, country manager, UPS France. “With the certification of our two largest package sorting facilities in France, UPS customers can rest assured that our transportation network offers the quality and capabilities that they need. When it comes to healthcare, we at UPS understand it’s a patient, not a package.”

The EU’s healthcare-product distribution standards are set by the European Medicines Agency, describing the conditions that a wholesale distributor must meet to ensure that the quality and integrity of medicines are maintained throughout the supply chain journey. Following an audit of its newest and largest facilities in France — the Lyon-Jonage (69) and Paris (91) hubs — UPS’s existing GDP-compliant procedures were certified to meet the specific requirements of the new Certipharm 032-7 standard for the transport of small parcels in the healthcare sector. This includes shipments of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices (implants, diagnostics and medical imaging), diagnostic products (including reagents) and stable blood products.

This new certification demonstrates UPS’s commitment to deepening its global supply chain footprint in the top-tier healthcare and life sciences segments. As part of this, UPS aims to inspire trust and empower innovation across the healthcare and life sciences ecosystem. Four pillars will drive the company’s long-term logistics strategy for transportation, warehousing and distribution of critical healthcare and life science goods: quality assurance, visibility, control and customer experience.

The certification also is part of UPS’s transformation and $2 billion investment in its European network, including more than $130 million invested in new, efficient and fully-automated hubs in Paris (opened 2018) and Lyon-Jonage (opened 2016). UPS has a network of 14 dedicated healthcare logistics facilities across Europe with 600,000 square meters of warehouse space. The centerpiece of UPS’s healthcare network is its campus in Roermond/Venlo, the Netherlands, which is located in close proximity to the company’s European air hub in Cologne, from which UPS can connect Europe to the world and the world to Europe.
